The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested Ohio residents, who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Ohio residents through their local OSU Extension county office. Volunteers are not required to have gardening skills. Program Requirements. A Master Gardener class program is held for 12 consecutive weeks. Classes beginning this fall 2014, will be held in the evening, dates & times to be announced. These sessions provide interns with ALL of the required educational hours. Classes are conducted at the OSU Extension Office & on-site. Master Gardener Volunteers The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested Ohio residents, who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Ohio residents through their local OSU Extension county office.

The Clermont County Extension Office accepts applications for the Master Gardener Intern Class based on interest.

To become a Master Gardener Volunteer, applicants must complete an application and background check, as well as sign the Standards of Behavior, Pest Management Information Policy and Child Abuse Reporting Policy Standards. Once all of this information is received and accepted, you will begin 50 hours of horticulture education. Upon completion of the 50 hours, you must take a 300 point test and pass with at least a 70%. The test is open book and open note and must be completed within 1 month of being accepted into the program.

In order to transfer from intern status to a Master Gardener Volunteer, you must volunteer 50 hours of service in Clermont County at approved sites and have 6 hours of continuing education.
In order to remain an active Master Gardener Volunteer, you must complete 20 hours of service and 10 hours of continuing education each year, as well as submit an updated Standards of Behavior and Child Abuse Reporting Policy Standards. In addition to the volunteer and educational hours each year, you will be required to renew your background check per OSU Volunteer Policy.

Working with county Extension personnel, Master Gardener Volunteers provide such educational services to their communities as: answering gardening questions from the public; conducting plant clinics; gardening activities with children, senior citizens, or disabled persons; beautifying the community; and developing community or demonstration gardens.
